I offer in-depth, somatic oriented psychotherapy, from my McMinnville, Oregon based practice. I work with individuals, couples and groups, and I teach workshops and trainings throughout the year.
I believe therapy should help you access your innate intuition and insight, and the therapist's role is to provide support and guidance in that process. My work weaves together tools and interventions from evidence based practices, such as Internal Family Systems and Nonviolent Communication. I draw on depth psychology, dream work, relational and feminist approaches to therapy, as well as my background in the contemplative traditions, as a student of yoga and meditation for 20+ years. I seek to accompany the people I work with on their path of awareness and self-understanding, and to support them to create the thriving relationships they want.
I'm dedicated to working with all people. My clients are often those keenly aware of the complex time we live in, and of the conscious and unconscious patterns that are preventing them from achieving their professional, personal, and spiritual goals. These unconscious patterns can show up as chronic stress, depression, anxiety, lack of motivation, insomnia, relationship issues, or a general feeling of being off course. I seek to be an ally to the people I work with, in awakening the parts that have been silenced, and to hear and understand their stories.
My experience in community mental health, outpatient psychiatric settings, and hospice brings a grounded foundation of trauma-informed care to our time together. I'm a licensed, clinical social worker in the state of Oregon, and I earned my Master’s degree from the Smith College School for Social Work in 2012.
I have an understanding of and dedication to working within a social justice framework and strive to have a practice that is affirming of all identities, races, experiences, and orientations. I actively work to build my awareness of how racism, sexism, white privilege, heterosexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, ageism, ability, body size and social class has impacted myself and my communities. I seek to make space for everyone and to honor their individual stories.
I am private pay only. I do offer sliding scale fees, feel free to contact me with questions. If you have read through the description of my orientation, and you are wondering if working together might be a good fit, the first step is to contact me to schedule a free consult.
"Julia’s unique style offers me surprising ways to examine deep seated issues and wounds....she is a teacher and guide, helping me acquire very accessible tools to understand my “triggers” and challenging life situations. I know that healing is not a linear journey, but working with Julia has helped me flourish at a pace that surprises me, given how depleted I once was. I feel confident knowing Julia is with me on my healing journey."
"My first encounter with Julia was at the yoga nidra class she taught. While I was initially concerned about two whole hours of non-movement, I came away from the class with a new perspective on being still, being quiet, and listening. Julia helped me set an intention and articulate gratitude, both truly gifts."
